Intersection plans for Shore Road and Sound Beach Avenue

July 31st, 2007

I would suggest the Association get involved quickly in the intersection plans for Shore Road and Sound Beach Avenue.

The good news is that the plan has resulted in the movement of the utility pole on the island 20 feet up Sound Beach and will now allow trucks and buses to negotiate the intersection without destroying private property or the island.

The bad news is that my guess is that 80% of the traffic going through the intersection which nows flows freely will be subject to a Stop sign.  In addition the two lanes coming down Sound Beach at the intersection will be necked to one causing even more back ups.  I would guess that this restriction would also result in traffic taking routes around it resulting in added traffic on Keofferem, Shore Acre, North, Wahneta and Nawthorne.

It is difficult to mix pedestrian traffic and vehicles in such a busy intersection and the solution is to move the pedestrian traffic to other crossings.  The Town did not want to hear that at a recent meeting.

The plan is to trial the new intersection.  I think the trial will be a disaster!

Tree Cutting in OG

July 31st, 2007

The annual slaughter of the trees is in full swing in OG. Majestic, beautiful trees are being destroyed in order to avoid any interference with the thick web of wires, poles. transformers, etc. that increasingly dominates our landscape. This is not about hugging trees, it is about our neighborhood becoming increasingly ugly, and for no good reason. The lines should be buried under the streets. It will be expensive, but can be paid for by a bond issue that spreads the cost over several decades and allocates the expense to future residents as well as current ones. The cost will be more than recouped in higher real estate values.
